Your initial consultation will take approximately 1 hour, in which a detailed case history and full postural and structural assessment will take place with subsequent visits lasting up to 40 minutes. You will be asked questions about your general health and past history of any previous injuries. Though you may feel that some of these questions may not relate to your presenting complaint, it essential that we identify any pre-disposing factors that may be involved in your symptomatic picture.
With your permission you may be asked to remove sufficient amount of clothing during the examination to assist us in identifying which structures may be compromised and allow the associated tissues to be treated. Towels will be provided to ensure you remain comfortable during your visit.
The diagnosis will then be explained to you and the likely time frame for the course of treatment which will involve an combination of joint articulation/manipulation, soft tissue massage and muscle energy techniques. After an osteopathic treatment, you may feel stiff or sore for up to 48 hours. This can feel similar to post-exercise soreness and is the bodies response for returning to good health.
If necessary and with your full consent we may liaise with your GP to request further tests such as x rays and blood tests or if we feel that you should be referred to an appropriate health care professional.
